Directement basé sur le morceau The Story Of An Artist de l’auteur compositeur Daniel Johnston, il s’agit ici de mêler, de manière très simple, le monde prolifique de cet américain iconoclaste avec celui de ses pairs qui sentent ses mots résonner avec une fragilité toute maladroite.Corps et papier traduisent littéralement, ou non, certaines de ses paroles en français. Une chorégraphie minimale accompagne par moments la poésie de Johnston. Antoine est un artiste français qui vit à Angers. Son approche interdisciplinaire comprend à l’heure actuelle un travail collaboratif (Lone Twin Theatre, UK & Collectif PLATOK, France) ainsi que le développement de sa pratique en solo.

Manolo Chrétien

In this short intimate interview, he tells us about his various inspirations and evokes the influence of his notorious father and the aeronautic environment in which he grew up.

In his recent work, Manolo traveled in search of what he defines as « skins », he claims to be a « skin photographer », always investigating and searching for the right texture where he can project his vision.

This interview presents him like the man he is, a extremely kind, generous and gregarious character.

Herbert Winful is not only a gifted composer, but also a renowned scientist and professor. He has made fundamental contributions to the fields of nonlinear optics and photonics….but more importantly he is a citizen of the world with a kind and gentle heart and he embraces laughter.

Michele Turner is a concert violinist who is now residing very near the abbey where this film was shot. She Studied at Guildhall Music College in London.
Herbert and Michele performed this piece spontaneously for your ears only. Esprit Voyageur was there to record the moment.

We are all touched by this dreadful disease, whether we have a relative or know someone personally afflicted with Alzheimers, and we are all vulnerable. (More information on the disease here). Depending on your location in the world, living conditions  and daily care of Alzeihmer centers and patients are precarious and offer very little comfort.

This collection of  films is a serie of 1,000 living tableaux lasting from 2 to 180 minute, a body of moving images revolving around the philosophy of time. They are long sequence shots in full high definition.

Contrary to ordinary programming the films do not provide a storyline.  The spectator is entranced by nature’s simple rhythm in time, an acquiescence to a peaceful place. Long sequence shots are accompanied by ambient sounds of nature, original musical compositions, or pure silence. The full films are an invitation to relax, to reflect, and discover a serie of contemporary living tableaux.

After one year of tests and medical analysis on the impact of different images, in order to format a collection targeted to this specific audience, the medical study team, composed of doctors and therapists, created a collection of selected films adapted to the needs of the patients. The therapeutic impact of the projections could be measured in several medical environments : Hospitals, Old folks homes, Alzheimer centers. Whether they are used as animation tools in living spaces, or specific workshops, they have a soothing effect, calming down the liter evening anxiety and stimulating a rythm of the day by creating a time table, reducing the stress of patients and worlers. An incredible and rewarding discovery.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

An exact percentage of people living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias is estimated to over 30 million people worldwide and doctors treating these conditions attest an ever increasing number of cases. There are very few services to offer these individuals or their caregiving families. Harsh economic realities necessitate that most adults work, making even more difficult the task of caring for family members with dementia.

This project provides a daily stimulation for these individuals. Projecting images not only improves the aesthetic environment, it encourages time travel, reduces anxiety levels and can also contribute to the healing process in the medical sector as they create an environment conducive to relaxation and a positive distraction.

How will this project help ?

The centers and families around the globe will be able to play the DVD through televisions and retroprojectors, immediately enhancing the quality of life for people living with dementia while allowing family members more flexibility to work, run errands, practice self-care, etc.

The films are already being used in hospitals and Alzheimer’s units around the world. They have been tested by reknown doctors and specialists and are now considered as a form of Art therapy as they adress the memory of the patients through a different medium. They have the same effects as Snoezelen centers, using the senses stimulation, but breaking the boundaries of walls. These initiatives are the future of therapy as they can reduce partially the drug consumption of patients by soothing and calming their daily lives.

Donations will enable the distribution of  this specific collection of films dedicated to the Alzeihmer’s unit.

Nestled in the heart of Pontlevoy, our house is one of the most historic homes, dating back to the 14th century. Completely renovated, the house prides itself on it’s unique and welcoming interior design; an artist’s abode… Our village is graced by the majestic Abbey and it’s beautiful gardens, not to mention it’s proximity to a number of the Châteaux in our region.

The LOCATION : PONTLEVOY

The village is located only 200 kms south of Paris, with easy access by TGV (daily direct trains to Paris and Charles de Gaulle) and numerous trains from neighboring towns (Montrichard, Onzain, Blois, Tours…)We are 25km south of Blois and 40 km from Tours in the heart of the Loire châteaux country. The village itself is quaint and peaceful, tucked into a landscape of gently rolling hills, cultivated fields, and protected forests. Biking and taking long walks is a natural past time. Enjoy the proximity of the chateaux and their local wines (6 of the most famous are located less than 15 minutes away) and discover the quality of life in our picturesque village, unharmed by tourism. For over 1000 years, Pontlevoy and it’s inhabitants have benefited from a micro-climat and the majestic presence of the Abbey whose grounds and gardens include a set of 16 beautiful buildings in the center of the village. There is even a megalith on the outskirts of town.

Our village also offers a unique community of people. For centuries, students have come to the Abbey (now the property of an American). In bygone years the nobility sent their youth to the Abbey for their studies and built prestigious homes. Therefore, the village is surrounded by noble properties and lovely gardens, not to mention the stunning countryside. Surrounded by farm lands, all routes seem to lead to Pontlevoy. For over 1000 years, it’s location has offered great biking and hiking paths literally minutes from the village.

The HOUSE 

After having spent 7 beautiful years in Pontlevoy, we are selling our home à « contre-coeur » (against our heart’s desire) for professional reasons. Our house is located on the historical main street, adjacent to the abbey (50 mtrs) and within a stone’s throw of the local bakery. The house is composed of 2 separate buildings (one of them being an ideal guest house). The property was once part of the Abbey grounds and our courtyard is similarly paved with the famous « stone of Pontlevoy ». Our house foundation has been dated back to the year 1400 and the house sits on 3 cellars with vaulted ceilings that are in themselves, spectacular and offer alot of space for your winecellar.

Our home is full of character and boasts original architectural details, beautifully patina walls, tiled floors (famous beginning of century « tommettes »), brand new kitchen, bath and shower, stone, wooden floors and ceilings, and access to our Sauna and Spa located in a building in the garden. Central heat has two sources of energy : Electric and wood through our Jotul stove. We use essentially our Jotul stove during the whole winter and have very moderate electric consumption for the whole house.

In Pontlevoy, there are two great restaurants, 4 pubs, 1 pharmacy, 1 supermarket, 1 bank, 2 doctors, 1 dentist, plumbers, electricians, organic farm, 2 vinyards, excellent schools and other businesses in Pontlevoy. And you are less than 30 mn from one of the greatest hospital center in France (Tours), 15 minutes from Hospital in Blois.

Our house is spacious and has recently been entirely renovated (2008). It is very comfortable with all the amenities and is fully insulated for winter and summer use.
The buildings possess a lot of charm and many of the walls have been painted decoratively.

Total suface : 285 M2 (+/- 3,000 square feet), Living room 60 M2 (645 Sq Ft), 4 bedrooms + 1 Loft (60 M2-700 Sq Feet), 2 bathrooms, 1 Kitchen, 1 attic, vaulted stone cave (wineceller, cellar), 1 big garage.

Extra buildings : Sauna, Pool house, tree house, and a garden of 380 M2 (4,000 Sq ft) adjacent to the abbey.

The house is listed for 299,000 euros (414,000 US dollars) and can be sold with furniture and appliances (Average selling price of houses in Pontlevoy for the past years has been 1,400 euros / M2 (200 US dollars / Sq Ft) for a « basic » 1970′s classic « ugly » french house.)

This property falls into a very different range of unique and unsual houses. It is the property of an artist (www.pamelamoulton.com) and is priced under its market value in order to speed the process of the sale.

Abbey de Pontlevoy (50 m). Winter in Pontelvoy

Pontlevoy and other neighboring villages have large weekly open-air markets with incredibly good local produce and goat cheeses, which are a regional specialty.   Fleamarkets are nearly everyweekend…Nearby are ten one- and two-star restaurants. The village and the abbaye are currently working together to welcome artists residencies and exhibit there works throughout the village and in the Abbaye. The ambition is to become the first « Artist community in the Loire Valley ».

A bilingual book about the life of the photographer of the village at the turn of the past century : louis Clergeau. Pontlevoy is probably the only village in the world where the life of it’s people has been documented by a professional photographer for over 60 years. An amazing archive of tableau vivants that Louis Clergeau spent his life documenting. If you are lucky enough to find one on amazon, don’t let the opportunity pass you by.

PONTLEVOY

A moins de 200 kms de Paris (accès direct CDG et Paris par TGV en 45 mn par st Pierre des corps), à 25 kms de blois et 35 de Tours, Le village de Pontlevoy est idéalement situé au coeur des chateaux de la vallée de la Loire.
Un secret bien gardé. Pontlevoy a su conservé, au fil des siècles, une atmosphère de village, ou l’on se connait et ou les visages dans la rue sont familiers. Au porte de la forêt de Montrichard, à quelques kilomètres seulement du chateau de Chenonceaux, les espaces autour de Pontlevoy offrent un cadre idylique aux amoureux des promenades et des balades en vélos.

La proximité de l’abbaye et son centre culturel offre tout au long de l’année une programation digne des plus grandes villes de France, et il est bien difficile de se motiver pour quitter Pontlevoy tant l’offre de divertissement y est constante : artistes en résidence, cours quotidien au centre de Pontlevoy (dance, théatre, comédie, musique…cf lien ci dessous avec « le centre »), concerts à l’abbaye et au pub « le commerce », restaurants gastronomiques…La proximité de l’abbaye et de ses jardins, le micro climat dont bénéficie Pontlevoy étant situé entre la Loire et le Cher (un taux d’ensoleillement rare en france), et les 16 batiments de l’abbaye qui entourent notre demeure font de cette localisation un endroit assez unique.

le village de Pontlevoy offre également une communauté hors du commun. Au fil des siècles, les parents des étudiants qui viennent suivre des cours à l’abbaye font construire de belles demeures et le coeur du village est assez pitoresque et caractéristique des périodes traversées depuis plus de 1,000 ans. La rue dans laquelle se trouve la propriété vient d’être intégralement rénovée. les travaux ont durés plus de trois années et ont transformés à nouveau le coeur du village.

Depuis plus d’un demi siècle, une communauté internationale a commencée à s’installer à Pontlevoy et il est assez courant d’entendre parler l’anglais, l’espagnol ou l’italien au Commerce, le pub/restaurant situé sur la place du collège qui organise souvent des veillées musicales. Les artistes depuis le début des années 70 ont également investit le village : de nombreux ateliers, des expositions régulières, et une communauté riche de personalités hors du commun : producteur, éditeurs, peintres, sculpteurs, écrivains, voyageurs…Qu’ils soient de passage ou qu’ils résident à Pontlevoy en permancence, la vie ici n’est jamais monotone et chaque coin de rue reserve une petite surprise. Plusieurs fois par an, les rues du village sont peuplées par les étudiants de plusieurs universités américaines qui ont élus domicile dans l’abbaye depuis que l’EURAMCENTER (cf lien ci dessous) les y accueille.

La PROPRIETE

Après 7 belles années à Pontlevoy, notre famille est dans l’obligation de quitter la région pour des raisons professionnels.

La maison est située à quelques pas de l’entrée de l’abbaye et de la place du college, dans l’hyper centre du village.
Généralement, les maisons situés dans ce quartier n’ont pas de jardin. Ce n’est pas le cas de la notre, qui offre plus 400 m2 de jardin jouxtant l’abbaye et l’une des seules caves en pierre de Pontlevoy taillée dans le rocher, il y a plus de 500 ans…

Elle est composée de deux bâtiments distincts qui sont liés mais qui pourraient faire l’objet d’une division avec des accès séparés.
La cour est accessible par la cuisine et par une porte sur une rue adjacente, elle est pavée avec les célèbres pierres de Pontlevoy et est entourée d’une barrière végétale et de plusieurs arbres qui en font un espace de calme et de repos très agréable.

La maison en elle même a été rénovée en 2008 par une architecte d’intérieur ou les volumes ont été exploités d’une façon à la fois originale et moderne tout en conservant l’histoire de la pierre et du bois de la maison. 100% des murs, de l’isolation, des espaces, de la plomberie, de l’electricité ont été intégralement refait. la maison est un logement économe de classe D (cf étiquette DPE en bas de page). Elle est également équipée d’un poêle à Bois Jotul haut de gamme qui réchauffe les longues soirées d’hiver, de domotique, et les murs sont des patines de couleurs qui viennent agréablement s’harmoniser avec les sols de la maison en parquet ou en pierre de Pontlevoy.

A Pontlevoy, il y a deux restaurants, 4 pubs/bars, un tabac, 1 pharmacie, deux docteurs, un dentiste, une banque, des plombiers, electriciens, un supermarché, et des hopitaux à moins de 20 minutes.

Surface totale de la maison : 285 M2 – Pièce de vie :  60 M2 – 4 chambres + 1 Loft  : 60 M2, 2 salles de bains, 1 cuisine, 1 grenier, 3 caves, 1 grand garage.

Dépendances : 1 Sauna, 1 Spa pour 6 personnes,  1 atelier de bricolage, une cabane dans les arbres, et un jardin de 380 M2 mitoyen à l’abbaye.

Le prix de la maison est 299,000 euros - pas de frais d’agence, juste le prix des actes notariés. La maison peut être vendue avec une partie des meubles et de la décoration.

Le prix moyen de l’immobilier à Pontlevoy se situe aux alentours de 1,400 euros / M2 pour un pavillon des années 70…Cette propriété se situe dans une catégorie très distincte, du moderne dans de l’ancien, le charme des poutres et de la pierre dans une environnement confortable et haut de gamme, c’est un coup de coeur, une demeure de charme qui est la résidence d’une artiste (www.pamelamoulton.com) et qui est présentée largement en dessous du prix du marché (rapport superficie/prix de vente) de façon à accelerer le processus de la vente.

L’hiver à l’abbaye de Pontelvoy

je jeudi c’est la jour du marché à Pontlevoy, le vendredi celui de montrichard (5 kms) et le dimanche, celui d’Amboise (15 mn). une agriculture et des produits naturels qui assurent une alimentation saine et de qualité tout au long de l’année.

Un livre a été consacré au travail de Louis Clergeau, un photographe professionnel qui a passé la plupart de sa vie à immortaliser des tableaux vivants des habitants de son village : Pontlevoy ! Certainement l’un des seuls villages au monde avec une documentation iconographique qui couvre presque 100 ans, puisque sa fille à repris le flambeau au milieu du siècle dernier. Il existe de nombreux photographes qui vivent encore à Pontlevoy, notamment  le formidable Marc Riboud.

The Burning Desire String Band is composed of musicians Marc Mueler, Bob Lucas, Frederic Park and Bob Willoughby. A quartet of musicians collecting old time songs, from blues to traditional folkloric music, they can, and will play it all.

Few voices have intrigued me as much as Rickie Lee Jones.

I recently found a copy of the 1979 Rolling Stones magazine edition in which she appeared for the first time, a few month after her first appearance in The Blue Valentine Album cover of  T. Waits.

I have always been fascinated by the characters appearing in her songs and by the unique jazzy, melancholic, «melodious » atmospheres that she creates with her magical touch and voice…always felt a deep and soulful connection with the spirits that haunt some of her songs : ie « We….Belong together », « the duchess of coolsville », « It’s more trouble than its Worth », « Living it up », « Chuck E’s in love »….For some of us, the titles of these songs are enough to ear the melodies and enchantments of her transcendental voice and feel the magic.

In 2009, I went to see her perform in Nantes, felt like « A Lucky Guy » to be there, and I recorded that short snap shot video of one of my favourite songs from her legendary album « Pirates ».
I like the fact that she is framed in that shot with the instrument of her musician, and slowly reappears, still framed by the brown intensity of the Electric bass.

Later after the show,  I did a fullish thing, a reall real stupid thing, I introduced myself to the musicians and had the honor of visiting a few minutes with the singing star that she is, and I cried a while…
I am a lucky guy.
